VBS & Celebrating Marriage

Our church's vacation bible school was last week (VBS) which means we all had a great time AND were all very tired! ;) Both of our boys have fallen asleep in the high chair several times as one year-olds, but one day last week I had a first. I had taken the kids out to play in the kiddie pool and when we came in they were all crazy hungry (and tired, obviously). I looked over at Collin and found him eating and drinking while asleep (or at least with closed eyes)! Putting his cup back after a drink.....

...picking up his sandwich for a bite....

...chewing....

....and time for another drink.....all with his eyes closed!

We spent a day last week during school learning a lot about water. One of the activities we did was mix food coloring in water (to show how water dissolves things) and then they did paintings on paper towels. They really got into this!

Even Collin had a great time! He loved telling me "bue!" (blue) and "red!" over and over again.

I only brought my camera to VBS on the last night when the kids did their concert. Here they are with their groups waiting to go on stage...

Excited to sing!!!

Singing and dancing the moves they learned all week...

There was a break in the lyrics in this song so they had the kids play guitar. Benjamin really got into it and even jumped of his step as he played!

Making wings....

After the show we all enjoyed some cookies!

You know I had to get a picture of them in their matching shirts!!

Anna showing off her stepping stone that she made one evening of VBS.

Collin looked so adorable in his t-shirt and like such a big boy. We ended each evening with music and most nights he would dance his way out of church. He LOVED the music and was quite the dancer!

We had a fun bath night this weekend with LOTS of bubbles!

Monday was our anniversary, so the kids and I had a fun idea to make a wedding cake while Dave was at work. I tried a healthier version for the first time and it turned out really well and the kids were tickled that we put applesauce in it. I couldn't believe how into (literally) Benjamin got with licking up the leftover cake batter!

He got it all over his shirt (which is why he's not wearing one here), all over his chest after we took the shirt off, all over his face and nose (as you can see) and I even looked over and caught him with his face in the bowl which meant he got it in his hair too!

Anna got hurt at church on Sunday. I forgot to take a picture of her that day and thankfully the swelling went down quickly. She jumped up to grab a streamer from the ceiling (we were taking the decorations down from VBS) and she went right into the corner of a wooden mailbox. It hit her right above the eyebrow just like Benjamin's injury was and I was so nervous as I pulled her hand away to check out her eyebrow that we were about to go through stitches again. Thankfully, it didn't break the skin....but it made this really nasty and deep puncture that turned purple and then all above her eyebrow got super swollen. I'm ready for these kiddos to stop scaring me and not get hurt!!

When Dave came home from work he had the greatest idea for a way to celebrate our anniversary with the kids. He had stopped at the grocery store and picked up eight (to symbolize our eight years of marriage) different fruits for us all to try. The kids loved this and we even discovered some new fruits that they enjoy. I think we are going to try and make this a tradition. Anna really enjoyed the pears and peaches.

She's always putting on a show for us (Dave snapped about ten more pictures similar to this one of her being silly)....

Benjamin really loved the plums and he also enjoyed kiwi quite a bit.

The wedding cake we made complete with the original topper.

I asked the kids if I could get a picture of them with this wedding cake since they weren't around for the first one....

and I had to include this picture to show why you have to be very quick with snapping pictures of these kiddos because they quickly turn into this. haha!

After cake we watched our wedding video with the kids for the first time. Anna is still obsessed with weddings (thanks to Aunt Kathy and Uncle Mike) and it was just magical for them to watch us getting married! They were so excited and laughed and had the best time! They each had different fun moments: Anna loved seeing me in my dress, Benjamin thought it was hilarious that his Grandma Susan had lighter hair, and they also loved recognizing all their family...especially Collin. He was right up by the TV, pointing and calling out his family members' names.....Collin especially loved when he got to see Mamom (Dave's Grandma). It was a really special way to celebrate our anniversary with them!
